Il trovatore, Opera Hong Kong’s second production of the year so far, opened with a star-studded cast featuring soprano Martina Serafin as Leonora, tenor Marco Berti as the troubadour Manrico, baritone Simone Piazzola as the villainous Conte di Luna and mezzo-soprano Marianne Cornetti as Azucena, all performing in a simple yet elegant revolving set.
They alternated with a cast including two leading Chinese singers, soprano Zhang Liping and the award-winning mezzo Guang Yang, Georgian tenor Iralki Kakhidze and baritone Mario Gassi.
Il trovatore rounds out Opera Hong Kong’s showings of Giuseppe Verdi’s great trip of operas, with La traviata in 2022 and Rigoletto in 2019.
Il trovatore continues at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre through 14 May.
